Jesus is Everywhere

For Christmas this year, Small got a set of "Russian Dolls" with Joseph and Mary and a shephard and Baby Jesus (the littlest wooden doll).  Let's just be honest, the gift seemed a little strange...I mean Mary was trapped inside Joseph, who was trapping a shephard, who was trapping, well, Baby Jesus.  Baby Jesus trapped.  Strangely, this is not the real problem.

A few days after the gift was received, the Shephard got rocked over and broken so it was just Mary, and Joseph and Jesus (just like God planned it).  Then, everything got weird.  Small started hauling Little Baby Jesus in his pocket and toting him around.  Fine, "Take Jesus with you everywhere," we said!

Small has this strange ability to "lose" things that he wants to sleep with so that he has a reason to get out of bed.  He wanted to sleep with Jesus.  "I lost Jesus!"  he said.

Haven't we all at some point?? So we would all go looking for Jesus.  Sometimes you just find Jesus in the strangest places...so true (I mean he IS omnipresent).  He's been inside the pillow case, under a chair, under the bed (which reminds me of a game I used to play with a hymnal during church:  say "under the bed" at the end of the hymn name for hours of fun).

And so we've been uttering things you should never have to say such as, "Don't put Jesus in your mouth" and "Jesus doesn't belong there."

It's odd.  Lately, Baby Jesus has been hanging out with Luigi from the movie, "Cars" and Small gets mad that Jesus can't ride in Luigi. My recommendation is avoid Nativity Russian Dolls and just keep Jesus in your heart. It's much easier and less blasphemous.

  1. This could be a devotion for My Devotions or for teacher to share at faculty devotions or with their class. Beautiful, Jill, and so true.
